Les Claypool playing his whamola

The Whamola

The whamola is a one string upright bass instrument.  Usually the string is whacked with a stick, it can also be played with the fingers or a bow.  Whamolas are a fusion between traditional folk and orchestral stringed instruments.

If you have never heard of these rare instruments before please do a quick web search and check out some videos of whamolas being played.  And check out some of the photos in the gallery below.

Our whamolas feature 42 inch scale lengths and are supplied with an electric upright bass string.  There is a lever on top that controls the pitch.  The whamola is tall, yet shorter people and kids can easily play it especially since it is height adjustable. Low E or A strings are available, some players find the A string to be more versatile.  Prices range from $400-$800 depending on options and these are usually built to order.

It’s weird, it’s wild, it’s different, it’s really fun…just order one and don’t look back!
